Free Hot Water from the Sun Using Natural Circulation

A natural-circulation solar thermal system produces domestic hot water without pumps, control units, or electrical components: the fluid heated by the sun rises spontaneously toward the storage tank due to differences in density. It is the simplest and most economical solution for immediately reducing gas or electricity consumption for hot water.

How a Natural Circulation System Works

The solar collector absorbs solar radiation and heats the fluid inside it. The hot fluid, being lighter, naturally rises into the tank located above the collector and transfers heat to the domestic hot water. No circulation pump or electrical power is required: fewer components mean less maintenance and no additional energy consumption.

EGO and FreeGO: Pleion’s natural circulation systems

EGO is the compact Pleion system with a tank integrated into the collector profile, designed for those who want a minimal visual impact on the roof. FreeGO is the system with a visible water heater, sized to meet a family’s hot water needs. Both systems can be installed quickly on either flat or pitched roofs.

When to Choose Natural Circulation

It’s the right choice for single-family homes, vacation homes, and areas with high solar radiation, where the primary need is for domestic hot water and you’re looking for a modest investment with a quick return. If, on the other hand, you also need to supplement your heating system or achieve high output in the winter, consider forced-circulation systems.

Tax Deductions and Incentives

Installing a solar thermal system may qualify you for tax credits and the Conto Termico program. Your Pleion installer will help you choose the right system and check which incentives are available.
